Mrs. Posey's final place of rest is located at Garden of Remembrance II, A-6, Space 1. Mrs. Davis-Posey, daughter of Reuben Adolphus and Maude Leila Smith Saville was born April 30, 1915, in Hall County Georgia. Mrs. Davis-Posey was a graduate of Piedmont College, Demorest, Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Also a graduate of the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia with a Masters Degree in education and specialist education. She married Mr. Giles S. Davis, an educator, who encouraged her to seek a career in education. She began her thirty-four (34) year career in Habersham, Hall and Forsythe counties and together they moved to Bartow Coun ty in 1951, teaching at Euharlee and Pine Log Schools before becoming visiting teacher for Bartow county and ending her career with the Cartersville School System serving twenty-two (22) years before retiring in 1977. Mrs. Davis was instrumental in starting special education classes for special needs children, was a charter member of Bartow County Child Council. A Charter member of the Hickory Log Vocational School, a private boarding school facility for handicapped men and served on the board of directors for many years using her expertise and experience, was involved with many programs affiliated with education for the City of Cartersville. Served in various capacities through the years with the Pilot Club of Cartersville. Active member of Meals on Wheels. Chosen Fraternalist of the Year 1997 for Woodman of the World. After Mr. Davis’ death and her retirement, she continued to be active in her church, liked to travel and enjoyed taking her grandchildren on cruises and many trips throughout the state and other states visiting friends and relatives. One of her hobbies was gardening and her yard usually was a beautiful array of blooms. Sharing her plants with neighbors and family was a delight. She married Mr. James Posey, a high-school classmate and together they traveled many places and camping areas. Her love and devotion to children and family was truly an inspiration to all. Teaching children extended far beyond her three as she strived to help each child reach their potential and excel in every area. An active member of Rowland Springs Baptist Church, she attended Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Davis-Posey is survived by two daughters, Susie D. Humphries of Marietta, Georgia and Gail D. Childers, son- in- law Harry Childers of Cartersville, Georgia. Six grandchildren, Debbie Davis and Dana Bucher of Dahlonega, Ga., Susan Humphries of Marietta, Connie McSwain and Cindy Farmer of Cartersville, Tony Childers, Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Eleven (11) great grandchildren, six (6) great great grandchildren, two sisters, Clairette Holcomb, Demorest, Ga. And Lucille White, Cornelia, Ga. Loving care givers, Lillie McGill and Frances Shepherd, a special thanks to Tammy Bennett and the staff of Amedisys Hospice of Cartersville,. She was preceded in death by her son, Lamb D. Davis and grandson, Doug D. Davis, her husband, Giles S. Davis and James W. Posey. The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Service will be at Rowland Springs Baptist church 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 with Pastor Joe Ringwalt and great grandson, Rev. Chris McSwain officiating. Mrs Davis-Posey will lie in state at the church from 10:30-11:00. Interment will be at Yonah Memory Gardens, Demorest, Georgia at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Serving as pallbearers : Thomas Farmer, III, Brock Hufstetler, William McSwain, W.C. Lowery, Lamar Payne and Randy Reese. Honorary Pallbearers; Gabriel Crawford, Jacob Duncan, Barry Bucher, Kent White, Mark White, Bobby Harper and Julian Saville. Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements.
