Mr. Wheeler's final place of rest is located at Garden of Yonah I, H-11, Space 1. Douglas Joseph Wheeler, age 86 of Demorest, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017. Born on December 3, 1930, he was a son of the late David Charles “Dee” Wheeler, Sr. and Cora Lee Waldrep Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler was a carpenter by trade and of the Holiness faith. He enjoyed classical music having been a self taught pianist and organist. He also enjoyed animals and walking. Mr. Wheeler served his country proudly in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, David Charles Wheeler, Jr. and Paul William Wheeler, Sr.; sister, Effie Blondine Whitmore Tomlin. Surviving are siblings, Rosalee Whitworth of Demorest, Nellaree Ellison of Clarkesville, Dorothy Mae “Dot” Hill of Mt. Airy, Linda Sanders of Mt. Airy; Andrea Catlett of Demorest, Willie D. “Bill” Wheeler of Demorest, and Randall Douglas Wheeler of Demorest. A private graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Yonah Memorial Gardens. All family is requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Wednesday.
